Based at Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, the acclaimed China NCPA Orchestra led by the world-renowned maestro Lü Jia will dazzle with the Festival Finale performance. The phenomenal artistry of Zhang Haochen is well known in Hong Kong (the Financial Times praised his “lithe energy, crystal clarity and impressive precision”), while the evening also offers an unmissable opportunity to hear the radiant voice of Song Yuanming: an international award winner who is in demand at opera houses across Europe, Asia and the USA.
Liszt’s barnstorming concerto is one of the most dazzling showpieces of 19th-century music, while Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde imagines love and longing on a cosmic scale. Yao Chen’s Garden: Unearthing the Way Home—which seeks order from chaos in music inspired by traditional Chinese gardening—will feel like an oasis at the heart of a concert that ravishes the senses. And to finish, Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy takes that feeling to the next level, in a supercharged, multicoloured outpouring of sonic passion for a colossal orchestra.
